All about being a narrowboat nerd.

Hey there,

If you like narrowboats, then there'll be some things here you find interesting. And if you don't know what a narrowboat is... They're long, slim (only 6 foot 10 inches wide) steel hulled boats, that are built to cruise the waterways of the British Canal Network. We bought our girl on May the 4th 2019. (Make all the Skywalker jokes you like, I <3 that we bought her Stars Wars Day.) And they travel at a whopping 3 miles an hour, think of them as steerable manatees (and they're not really that steerable to be fair). But, it is the most genteel way to mosey around the country.

Now the Husband and I are drowning in teenagers, and we get BUSY with day jobs and the like. I also write romance, make vlogs, procrastinate a lot, and am generally late for almost everything - The Husband deals with all our chaos and keeps us on track.

Between us we juggle the tribe, a crazy spaniel, work and try to escape to the canals as often as we can, enjoying drinks & cooking (coeliac) food along the way. But between working, living on land and then deciding to buy a narrowboat and keep her in one of our local marina's (which is still over an hour away,) it's made life even more hectic than it was already. But, as you know, in 2018 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and it was a bloody life affirming experience. So we just decided to go for it. It's something we'd talked about loads and suddenly all the reasons to wait seemed, well, daft.

So, as first time narrow boaters, learning the ropes, it seemed entirely practical to document buggering up. And isn't that what YouTube is for?

(If it's scenic canal & boat photos you're after, we keep the pretty-pretty for IG ;) )
