The end of summer.
There is a funny sense of lost time come the 2nd of September. Only a few children are left as most have returned to school, while parents emanate equal measure relief, exhaustion and sadness as they drift around in a state of confusion, having lost the thread of the 'old routine'.
And on those precious days of early September when the sun shines with the memory of summer, you suddenly find yourself faced with the undeniable truth; summer is past. We are now on the speedway to rain, frost, fireworks, half-term and panic about stocking fillers.
And those things all have their own elements of fun too - but for some inexplicable reason, I shall miss the summer more this year.
